Vang Pao was born in December, 1929 at Nong Het, Xiangkhouang Province, Laos. He died
at Clovis, California on January 6, 2011. Vang Pao led the Hmong Special Guerrilla Units
during the Secret War in Laos. At first he worked with the French, and later with the United
States. He formed an alliance with the Central Intelligence Agency with the mutual goal of
defeating the North Vietnamese in Laos. That effort failed with hundreds of U.S. Personnel
dead, or missing, and tens of thousands of Lao citizens caught in the crossfire. Along the
way, the Hmong rescued many down airmen, and provided protection and intelligence
information to multiple U.S. Agencies. After Laos fell, Vang Pao came to the United States
and continued to serve the Hmong as their champion, and their voice. He died working in
the best interest of the Hmong. May God bless this truly courageous, and selfless warrior.
